Wordfall

My words are fleeing me again, the dry leaves blowing from the trees.  I’ll steal or borrow, hoard the way the squirrels are, tucking away phrases and images—those windfall words—for all the rainy days ahead.

recalcitrant
Fifth Avenue
shirred eggs
fir forest
butterscotch
oblesse oblige
tarantula
(and tarantella)
spiffy
squelch
Laurentian Abyss
Laurentian Chief Moccasins
monorail
to the manor born
amulets
(and omelettes)
radicchio
fleece
understated
lording it over
incunabula
snake charmer
flagstone
Charing Cross
lepidopterists
Oak Canyon
stentorious
(and serentipitous)
the cure of souls
aquamarine
homebound
horehound

Like buttons in a buttonbox, a little stash of words to match eventually to a garment.  To wear out to a café with a steamed window and luring lights.

  1. i so enjoy how your mind works.
and how you select the picture always to go with the words.
this post brought back immediate striking memories . . .
i used to sit as a small child and play long and long with my gram's magical box of buttons. all shapes sizes colors!
horehound! my mother used to like that horrible tasting candy. maybe i should try one now if one can even find it.
my grown up taste for it might have changed.
and no-no for me and the word tarantula! arrived home one day to the sight of one the size of a saucer crawling up my garage door! NO NO NO! ewwww.
all the other words on your wonderful list . . . well . . .
not so much the snake charmer . . .
but all the other words . . . take me everywhere!
    with delight! LOLOL. xo
