So Unlike the Usual

This Picasso, so unlike his usual subject matter or manner, has always left me envious, dissatisfied.  Someone I worked with left the job she did not like, and moved to a new office on the other side of the building, full of space and light, and put up this poster.

It speaks to me of new beginnings, clean slates (or desks, in any case), the changes I myself have not made, for the longest time.  Of getting out of one's rut, painting cheerful doves against the grain, spying the sea beyond.

It is a lesson I have not learned by heart, a warning I have not heeded.

  1. it seems almost a bit matisse. i would have honestly thought that first.
only it doesn't have the lightness of being ~ in spite of new beginnings ~ there is a dark side to it to me. perhaps in the black foliage.
one fine day you'll want your fresh slate enough? maybe even just clearing the top of a table totally! it helps. it really does. lol.

  2. You're so right, Tammy—this isn't the light image I'd remembered. Maybe the colors were less primary, the black less prominent. I wouldn't choose it for myself now. Clean surfaces are wonderful—especially with a bit of lemon polish to give them a glow! I must start with that. Thanks for setting me back on the right track.
