Twelve Twelve Twelve

We are living in momentous times.  12/12/12 feels as if it ought to bear a huge, eerie significance; and just around the corner is 12/21/12, supposed by some to be apocalyptic.  Mathematicians and numerologists must be doing their sums around the world, summing up our lives, summoning and composing the planets like the hardwood beads of an ancient abacus.

(And in the meantime work goes on as usual . . . )

  1. Hmm, I'm honestly quite skeptical about Dec. 21st. The end of the world has often been predicted in human history, on the wave of small details which have been blown up to giant revelations.
There's nothing wrong, I think, in giving certain speculations a serious analysis, but that should be done with a certain degree of astro-archeological precision that cannot certainly be found on Google images or Wikipedia. The calendar in your first picture is not Mayan, it is Aztec and was found in Mexico City. The Aztecs civilization started developing about 500 years after the collapse of the Mayans.
But I admit there's a thrilling vibe to all this end-of-the-world insanity.
