I’ve been ruminating on pelicans, for literary reasons, and have been reminded how much I like them.
And of course the poem comes to mind:
A wonderful bird is a pelican,
His bill will hold more than his belican.
He can take in his beak
Food enough for a week;
But I'm damned if I see how the helican.
— Dixon Lanier Merritt (often misattributed to Ogden Nash)

I look forward to the pelicans' return this fall!
ReplyDeleteAnd let's hope they DO come back--in droves!
