Denver Musings

Some Sunday morning musings from Denver—
which was founded by putting down logs on land inhabited by the Arapahoe tribe.

From my window I can see
An earth-colored church spire and refinery towers, the same color and height
A lip of mountains around the broad and unassuming plain where the city rises (or this morning is slow to rise)
Banners for The Book of Mormon
A gigantic Jack Daniels (Old No. 7) sign fronting Backstage Coffee
A solitary pedestrian with book bag and coffee—

Nothing that lures me out to walk in the Sunday morning coolness as I would in Boston or Manhattan, or NW Washington DC (though I was drawn yesterday evening, irresistibly, by the shady brick-walled patio of a bistro in historic Larimer Square, and by a heavy graceful candle holder in a shop window, a long-tailed dove).

  1. I love the picture.
I heard a lot about Denver, although the people who visited it kind of told me it's not the best place I could visit in the US.
Your description seems to go against the flow.

I'm in Italy. My next two or three articles will be about a few details I saw in here and which I think make the most of this country.
    Hope you will enjoy them!

Have a nice rest of the week!

  2. Jay:

No, I wouldn't recommend Denver—but if you happen to find yourself there, pleasurable moments can be had.

I will very much look forward to your descriptions of Italy; and as of next Thursday I will be in Italy too! I think I'm going to have to schedule some "filler" blogs ahead, since I found it hard to post anything via my iPad (which is the absolute most I'll take with me, and possibly not even that). Enjoy wholeheartedly the rest of your time there, and I'll store up my impressions—and photos—to share later.
